Personality of a Cornish Rex
The Cornish Rex is a lively, curious and social cat breed. The strongest personality trait of the breed is the great need for stimulation. It is very athletic and loves to jump, play and climb. Having more than one cat when you have a Cornish Rex can be good because it will have a friend to play with. This cat breed is very human-friendly and loves to cuddle with its cat parents. It is also best suited as an indoor cat, but is often easy to learn to walk on a leash if you would like to take it outside.
Looks and fur care of a Cornish Rex
The Cornish Rex is a slim, stately and muscular cat that, like the Devon Rex, has a distinctive wavy or curly coat. The coat of a Cornish Rex is short, smooth and easy to maintain and consists almost entirely of undercoat. This means that it sheds almost nothing and can also suit you with an allergy to fur animals. However, the thin coat means that the breed has a hard time keeping warm and therefore thrives best indoors. Brush the coat once a week to keep it well maintained and help reduce shedding.
Health problems in a Cornish Rex
The Cornish Rex cat breed is generally healthy, but is of course prone to certain hereditary diseases. The unusual coat also makes it susceptible to different types of skin problems, such as dryness or rashes. Therefore, make sure to keep their skin hydrated. It happens that cornish rex develop tear flow problems and eye infections due to their large and prominent eyes. Regular cleaning and eye care is important to prevent these problems. A Cornish Rex can also suffer from hypotrichosis, which means hair loss that leads to baldness.
